This is the StandZa Zip Bags sewing pattern from Sew TracyLee Designs.

Learn how to use vinyl mesh OR fabric covered Stiff Stuff OR fabric covered Soft and Stable to create adorable zippered bags that stand up for you and make a statement of their own.  Make great gifts out of leftovers and scraps. No paper pattern or template pieces to fuss with. This is a rotary cut sewing project. Use your ruler and rotary cutter. Amazingly EASY, super cute, flat-bottom standup bags in 3 sizes: Bitsy, Giftsy and Glamsy, made from your choice of vinyl mesh or fabric.

An important word about the zippers used for this pattern:

The important thing to know is that each component of the zipper, including both pieces of zipper tape and the pull--must be the same brand, style and size of nylon coil zipper.

Atkinson and ByAnnie zippers are great! Both the Atkinson and ByAnnie are actually YKK brand nylon coil zippers but different sizes: Atkinson zippers are smaller and wonderful for small bags, clutches and wallets while ByAnnie zippers are larger and a perfect choice for bigger bags or heavier, more "durable" applications.

Sullivan Zippers on a roll are also a very good choice. We have two sizes of Sullivan Zippers: Regular which is nice for small bags, clutches, wallets; and Heavy Duty which is better for heavier and more durable applications.

Find a great selection of the above listed zippers on this page:

If you are using zippers you already have on hand or you are purchasing elsewhere, please remember this technique will NOT work with invisible, metal or sport weight zippers, nor will it work with some Talon zippers and some Coats & Clark zippers.

ALWAYS TEST your selected zipper tapes & pulls for compatibility--no matter what brand or size you choose--before sewing your project.

BONUS: Step by step instructions for making the Double-sided Button Rick Rack Flower used as decorative zipper pulls on the Giftsy and Glamsy bags shown on the pattern cover image are included in this pattern

· SKILL LEVEL:  Easy enough for beginners, fabulous fun for experts.

Note: Vinyl mesh is firm like vinyl pet screen. DO NOT use poly mesh -- which is flimsy like lingerie bags.

Pattern includes 3 great sizes - but after you've made a few and understand the simple construction process it's very easy to make your own custom size bag:

Make a travel sewing kit or mini first aid kit. Make a hot drink gift bag by filling the finished bag with packets of hot chocolate, tea or coffee.
