Barbara Brunson started Vanilla House
Designs in 1994, introducing twelve patterns at International Quilt Market
in Charlotte, NC. The patterns were successful, thus launching the Vanilla House journey. Designs first started with soft
sculpture critters, bears being Barbara's favorite. In 2002, she switched
the emphasis to designing home dec and fashion accessory themes.
At this writing, they are preparing to
publish their 106th pattern under the Vanilla House label. They also have
published four booklets along with magazine projects, catalog patterns,
and project sheets for other companies, a total of 325 published projects.
The Vanilla House Designs mission statement includes a new emphasis of
designing patterns that appeal to newer and younger sewers. They try to
make projects simple but creative, utilizing trendy fabric options that
entice a younger generation into the wonderful world of the sewing arts.
Barbara's newly built studio looks out at the beautiful trees of
Hillsboro, Oregon, where she and her husband, Lowell, have resided for 18
years. Yes, it has been a great journey, one they hope continues for many
years! |
