| Here's a quick test piece I
whipped up using a variegated
Finca Perle 16 (for Finca
Perle 16 solids, click here) through my domestic sewing
machine needle. I set a wide zigzag and couched down some gold El
Molino rayon.
I literally had less than 5 free minutes,
but I'd been wanting to see for myself how it would work using perle 16
in the needle of my sewing machine. So, I grabbed the largest needle I
could find (a topstitch 100 needle), loosened my tensions threaded my
machine and slowed my speed. Away I went, stitching on a white piece of
fabric that I had pre-fused to fast2fuse
heavy weight, double sided fusible interfacing. This
gave the piece extra stability while I was stitching. This
technique produced quite a dramatic look -- this photo
does not fully capture the vibrance of the gold rayon nor the depth of
the delicious purple perle.
Oh boy...this was easy peasey. I
can't wait until I have more time to play with this technique.
Maybe using some of my other stitches or even in free motion work.
Hmmm....
