Tracy's Tumbleweed Travels - La Veta, Colorado - August 2, 2007

August 7, 2007 - YEAHHHHH!!!  YIPPEEE!!!!!  YAAAAHOOOOO!!  I got the go-ahead straight from Alex Anderson to speak openly about my visit to La Veta and The Quilt Show tapings.

I nearly flipped when I saw Jane Dávila walk down the sidewalk in front of TAQS last Thursday morning.  Jane is the author of The Art Quilt Workbook and I've known her from the Quiltart email list for years and years.  I've been a fan of her work for quite a while, so WOW...this was a great treat!  She was so nice and very genuine.  She did an amazing job during her taping.  The audience was very engaged and I noticed several "ahhh-haaa" moments.

During the morning session, I watched Judith Baker Montano and saw many of her exquisite pieces.  What a pro and a great presentation. Ohhh...the intricacy and rich textures in her pieces.  LOVED it!

I also had an opportunity to spend some time with Bob "The Thread Guy" Purcell from Superior Threads and I'm so excited about new threads and things coming later this year.

Last but not least, I had an opportunity to meet Beth Ferrier.  I've known Beth "online" from a couple of email lists for the better part of 6 years or more.  It was a true treat to finally meet her in person.

Here are a few more pictures from the trip to La Veta:

On the road toward La Veta. The morning fog is lifting to reveal a glorious view.

A closer look...

I went up a day early to explore La Veta.  I found this marvelous piece on a wall in the dirt alley way next to TAQS.

Ricky and Alex walking toward the La Veta Inn after a long day.

Just up the steps and through the magic door to the set of The Quilt Show!

TAQS is sew cool!

Here I am with Jane in front of TAQS.  It rained heavily the night before, so the humidity was wreaking havoc on my hair! Jane is the author of The Art Quilt Workbook and I've known her from the Quiltart email list for quite a while.

A gorgeous garden setting...

...delicious...

WOW!

Spectacular!

On August 2, 2007, I had the amazing opportunity to attend a taping of 2 shows of The Quilt Show with Ricky Tims & Alex Anderson

I met so many smart and talented people, it blew my socks off.  Observing what happens behind the scenes of the taping was incredible.  Ricky and Alex are gracious, generous and such talented professionals.  It was amazing to watch the set and production of each show and how hard the team worked to get everything done right and on time.  Justin (aka Bad Bart) kept the audience in line and entertained through the long day of taping. TAQS has an amazingly talented and hard-working team.

Ooooo...the guests were FABULOUS too!  Unfortunately, we (the audience members) were sworn to secrecy so I can't say who the guests were until after the episode is released.  I can say with total confidence that you are going to LOVE both of these shows!

WOW!!!  What a fabulous experience!!!! If you ever have the opportunity to go, don't even give it a send thought...JUST GO!!!

Here are a few images from around TAQS (Tims Art Quilt Studio) in La Veta.  I have many more to add but need to recover from the whirlwind of the last 3 days.  Please check back for more next week.

Ta daaaaa!!!  I made it to TAQS.  What a gorgeous studio and gallery.

This little guy is sitting next to some gorgeous flowers on the steps of TAQS, greeting visitors with a grin.

Sweet and delicate pretties in a garden next to a pastry shop.

Buzzing bees LOVE this sage plant in front of the pastry shop.

"Stunning!"

This half eaten apple still hangs on the tree in the garden next to the pastry shop.

I fell in love with the color and texture.

more pictures coming next week...
